Ongekend Herkenbaar - Onno Zijlstra

In this book, philosopher Onno Zijlstra, through the discussion of contemporary artworks, inspiringly encourages us to reflect on questions such as: Does art make us look differently?, Art is an expression of feeling, isn't it?, Is the aesthetic a value in itself?, Does art help us wake up from the dream?, What can art mean for a community? and more.

Emma Versluys illustrated each chapter of this book, the illustrations were thoughtfully placed in the book by Dana Dijkgraaf.

Emma Versluys about the process of creating the illustrations:
After reading the manuscript of the book, the common thread I read in each chapter was the relation between human(s) and art, or humans and their experience of art.
From there, I played around with finding different ways of portraying humans, in a way that is both artistic and diverse. For the representation of the art and the experience of art, I searched for movement. Which movement takes place in around or close by the human. I searched for dynamics, color and versatility. Something that can speak to the imagination, but still grasps the essence of each chapter, so that the reader gets a visual tease of what they will be reading.
